AFCO San Diego RDC Project Construction Award

The Regional Distribution Center (RDC) project at the San Diego International Airport financed and developed by AFCO for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority received the 2013 Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America.The C&S Companies San Diego office was Architect/Engineer for the project, and The Augustine Company of San Diego was the General Contractor. Chuck Stipancic, President of AFCO, attended an awards dinner in San Diego on April 25, 2013 to accept the award. The RDC project appeared in a slide presentation along with other recipients.

AFCO Completes Construction of New Central RDC San Diego International

November 2012Aviation Facilities Company, Inc. (AFCO) participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 14, 2012 to celebrate its completion of the Receiving and Distribution Center (RDC) project on behalf of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Authority) at the San Diego International Airport.The RDC is a 23,000 square-foot facility located on the north side of the airport that will serve as a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly central delivery distribution center for all terminal concession operations and is a key component to the Authority’s new concession program at the airport.  The project will provide significant efficiency and security benefits by centralizing the distribution of food, beverage and other goods at the airport and reduce traffic on surrounding roadways, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  AFCO and the Authority are pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Build Council for the RDC project, which would make...

AFCO Awarded Project to Finance, Design and Build

January 2012Aviation Facilities Company, Inc. (AFCO) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract and issued a formal notice to proceed to finance, design and build a Central Receiving and Distribution Center (CRDC) on behalf of the San Diego Regional County Airport Authority (Authority) at the San Diego International Airport in San Diego, California.The 21,000 square foot facility, estimated to cost $8.5 million, will serve as a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly, logistics, storage and distribution center for goods, supplies and products for all of the terminal concession operations at the airport and will be built on approximately 1.5 acres on the north side of the airport.  The CRDC project will be a key component to the Authority’s new concession program at the airport.

August 2008, Indianapolis International AirportAFCO has begun construction of off-airport parking facilities on 25 acres near the southwest corner of Indianapolis International Airport. The new parking facilities will be located near the new airport terminal complex and entrance road, which are currently under construction and expected to be completed in early November 2008. Six Points Road Developers LLC (SPRD), a joint venture between AFCO and Airport Parking Management (APM), acquired 47 acres of land to develop the parking facilities in 2006. SPRD will develop the parking facilities and any future commercial development. Of the 47 acres, approximately 25 will be used for the parking operation and the balance of approximately 22 acres is earmarked for future commercial development, which may include hotels, industrial/flex space, and retail or office buildings.APM currently owns Indy Park Ride & Fly LLC (IPRF), an existing off-airport parking operation near the current airport entrance at the northeast corner of the airport. AFCO was the developer for the first privately funded and operated for-profit commercial airport in the United States in Branson, Missouri.  Branson Airport LLC, in which AFCO has a minority ownership and sits on the board of Branson Airport LLC, closed on the financing for the new airport on June 28, 2007.The project was funded with private equity and $114 million in 30-year tax-exempt revenue bonds underwritten by Citigroup.  In its role as developer, AFCO was responsible for overseeing the design and construction of the project.  The new airport initially includes a 45,000 square-foot terminal facility geared towards low-cost airlines, a 7,140 foot runway that can ultimately be extended to 9,000 feet, an airport access road, fuel storage facilities and rental car and passenger parking facilities.Construction of the airport began in July 2007 and was completed in May 2009.  Burns & McDonnell designed the airport and McAninch Corporation of Des Moines, Iowa was the contractor...

AFCO commenced construction of a ground support equipment (GSE) maintenance facility at Orlando International Airport (OIA) in December 2006. AFCO teamed with the design/build firm The Haskell Group based in Jacksonville, Florida. The new facility will be the only purpose-built, multi-tenant GSE maintenance facility at OIA.The 30-year ground lease between AFCO and the Greater Orlando Airport Authority (GOAA) offers an ideal site location for state-of-the-art GSE maintenance operations, with an airside equipment staging area, complete with equipment wash rack facilities. Completion of the approximately 40,000 square-foot facility is expected in June 2007.Jim Norris, AFCO Vice President, Development, negotiated the terms of the ground lease with GOAA. AFCO also owns and operates a 50,000 square-foot office flex cargo facility at OIA. Frank Chambers, CEO of AFCO, said “We are very happy to be expanding our already excellent cargo facility relationship with GOAA.
